What are some healthy tips for dealing with a new child, a career and a crazy schedule?

I’m turning 50—which as you know is the new 30!—and I have a crazy but fulfilling life and schedule. Also, I just adopted our first child, a beautiful 9-month-old girl, and I need to get in shape! I am 5’5″ and I have gained 25 pounds since the adoption due to lack of sleep, carbs and no exercise. I feel like my body holds onto weight! What are some healthy tips for dealing with a new child, a career and a crazy schedule? – Patricia

Congratulations, and there is no time like the present to get back into shape! A good jogging stroller and our amazing Kids Klub at LA Fitness should help with your exercise routine. With a crazy schedule it’s imperative to have your healthy food options prepared in advance and planned-out. Try individual portions of grab-n-go foods like cheese and crackers, sliced apples and peanut butter, yogurt, hummus and pretzels, and hard-cooked eggs. These are all things your child can eat as a toddler, too! – Debbie M., MS, RD

  1. I workout and enjoy LA Fitness with my family. However, in working out I have discover according to my fitness app my protein intake tends to be low. Is there any thing beyond vegan protein powder I should do?

  2. Could not agree more, a jogging stroller is great for getting fit. I always make sure to have some fresh cut carrot sticks in some water in the fridge I can grab on the way out.
