When Will the Time Change This Fall? TOP TIPS to get you Ready

Daylight Saving Time ENDS – Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2 a.m. So remember to set all of your clocks BACK one hour in order to make it to work on time Monday morning. Make sure you change ALL of your clocks in order to avoid confusion, particularly during those sleepy hours before your  morning commute to work on Monday. Here is a list to help you remember many of the clocks that you might have to change, and leave a comment for your fellow readers if you can think of any clocks that we may have forgotten about.

Don’t forget these clocks:

  • Car
  • Bedroom alarm clock
  • Stove
  • Refrigerator
  • DVD and or VCR
  • Wrist watch
  • Wall clocks
  • Phone (if it doesn’t automatically update)
  • Computer or laptop (Again, if it doesn’t automatically update)
  • Voicemail Time Stamps and Answering Machines
  • Guest bedrooms
  • Kid’s rooms and alarm clocks
  • HOTEL ALARM CLOCK – if you will be away for the weekend

Fall Back and Feel like you’re sleeping in – One of the benefits of “fallback” is that when you wake up for work on Monday, you will feel like you actually slept in an hour later. Since it will feel like it is an hour later than it really is at night, you can double-up on your efforts and go to sleep an hour earlier. Giving your body some extra rest is a great way to allow it to recover from working out.

Kid’s Bedtime and Naptimes – Start making incremental adjustments to their bedtime and naptimes a few days ahead; this will make the transition easier for all of you. Remember that if your child’s bedtime is 8 p.m., their body is going feel like it is 8 p.m. when it is actually 7 p.m. until they adjust to the time change. Also, take into consideration that if they normally wake up at 7 a.m., their body is going to tell them to get up at 6 a.m. Helping your kid’s adjust to the time change will ultimately allow an easier transition for you too.

Your Fitness Schedule and Energy Level – The time change will more significantly impact those of you who train after work or later in the day. If you barely have the energy to get your workout in now, it will feel an hour later than it really is to your body after you set your clock back. Try to get in to the gym a little earlier, or at least know that you will have to muster up a bit of extra motivation until you adjust to the time change.

Arizona and Hawaii – Just go on with life as usual since your states do not participate in Daylight Saving Time. 🙂
